Get it off your chest at School Board meeting

The Pinellas County School Board will meet at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the district administration building, 301 Fourth St. SW in Largo.

The public is invited. Anyone who wants to talk about either agenda or nonagenda items can fill out a form at or before the meeting. People can speak about any item on the agenda not involving a hearing on employee discipline by registering five minutes before the item is introduced.

The meeting will be televised at 6 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays for two weeks after the meeting date. All broadcasts are shown on WPDS-Ch. 14, which also appears on Knology Ch. 14 and Bright House Networks Ch. 14.

Gibbs gathering to focus on college alternatives

The Gibbs High School Parent Teacher Student Association will hold a program for students interested in pursuing opportunities other than college at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Gibbs cafeteria, 850 34th St. S.

Students and their parents will learn about jobs in nursing, automotive technologies, building, computers, plumbing and other fields that do not require a four-year college degree.

Speakers at Alternatives to College, including representatives from the school's guidance department, the Pinellas Education Foundation, WorkNet Pinellas and the Pinellas Technical Education Centers, will talk about job opportunities, career training and financial assistance.

10 graduates who foster friendliness to get aid

High school seniors who have been accepted to an accredited college or university for the fall semester are eligible to apply for a Project Friendship Scholarship.

Awards from $1,500 to $5,000 are available to 10 high school seniors across the state who have a 3.0 or higher grade point average and demonstrate leadership in school or community volunteer activities that promote a safe and friendly environment.

Students must submit an application, a high school transcript, letters of reference from a teacher and community leader familiar with their volunteer activities, a detailed list of school and community volunteer work, and a 1,000-word essay.

Wilcox to give parents a chance to ask questions

Pinellas School District superintendent Clayton Wilcox will conduct a series of "Listening Tours" throughout the county to give parents a chance to ask questions about the school system. The forums will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at these locations:

APRIL 27: Pinellas Park City Auditorium, 7690 59th St. N, Pinellas Park.

MAY 3: Enoch Davis Center, 1111 18th Ave. S, St. Petersburg.

MAY 10: Tarpon Springs Fundamental School, 400 E Harrison St. MAY 11: Paul B. Stephens Exceptional Education Center, 2935 County Road 193, Clearwater.
