County scrutinizes plans for land in legal battle

By Times Staff Writer
Published April 22, 2005

CRYSTAL RIVER - Citrus County planners are reviewing a developer's application to subdivide about 124 acres in the area that Crystal River annexed a year ago.

The review began at interim City Manager Phil Deaton's request, county officials said. Cynthia Jones, a county planner, said Thursday that RealtiCorp. has asked to divide the 124 acres into nine lots. The two largest lots would be 54 acres and 50 acres, and the remaining 20 acres would be divided into seven lots of various sizes, Jones said.

County officials will determine if the subdivision proposal complies with the county's comprehensive plan and land development code and then submit a report to the city staff. The land, between Venable Street, U.S. 19 and W Penn Drive, is the subject of a legal battle. The county and a residents group are challenging its legality. Deaton and the developer's attorney, Clark Stillwell, did not return telephone messages for comment.
