Pass the merlot (or not) at eighth annual Winefest

SOHO -- Wine lovers will have plenty to toast at Bern's eighth annual Winefest featuring four days of wine and food tastings, seminars and dinners.
The festivities at Howard and Morrison avenues begin at 6:30 p.m. today with the SideBern's Winefest Gala. Tickets are $175 and include a reception, dinner and wine.
On Saturday, chef Jeannie Pierola and special guest Lee Jones of the Chef's Garden will hold a Cooking Class Luncheon from 12:15 to 3:15 p.m. Cost is $100.
The Grand Tasting begins at 11 a.m. Sunday with the Moet Hennessy VIP Party. General admission opens at 12:30 p.m. and goes until 4 p.m. Guests may taste more than 150 wines paired with food samples from Bern's and SideBern's. The tasting event will include two seminars and a silent auction benefiting Bern Laxer Culinary Scholarships until 3 p.m. Tickets are $75 per person in advance and $85 at the door. Tickets to the VIP Party are $150.
The winefest ends Monday with the Philip Togni Winemaker Dinner. Tickets are $250 per person.
Guests must be 21 years of age or older, and identification is required. A portion of the ticket price will be donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Gaspar's Grotto hosts date auction for charity
YBOR CITY - Gaspar's Grotto, 1805 E Seventh Ave., hosts the second annual bachelor and bachelorette charity auction, "An Affair to Remember," starting at 5 p.m. Thursday. Bid on some of Tampa Bay's most eligible bachelors and bachelorettes, including former Oakland Raider Henry Lawrence.
A VIP party with free wine, beer and hors d'oeuvres goes from 6 to 7 p.m. The silent auction by WFLA-AM 970 morning co-host Jack Harris begins at 7 p.m.

UT to offer information session on will writing
DOWNTOWN - Learn about getting your affairs in order at a will-writing clinic sponsored by the University of Tampa's Institute of Estate and Financial Planning. The free clinic runs from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Vaughn Center board room, 401 W Kennedy Blvd.
Lynne Walder will speak on protecting end-of-life decisions through a living will and power of attorney, developing and maintaining a last will and testament, selecting people to represent your interests, and understanding the probate process.

Fetch a piece of Florida at the Sunken Gardens
ST. PETERSBURG - Sunken Gardens, 1825 Fourth St. N., hosts the Florida Collectibles and Vintage Memorabilia Show from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Items will range from roadside attraction kitsch and paintings by the Florida Highwaymen to vintage cypress lamps and alligator and flamingo souvenirs.
View a sneak preview of the documentary Once a Mermaid . . . Tails of Weeki Wachee, meet former mermaids and consult with a "mertailor" to design your own mermaid or merman costume. Haole Kats will give free appraisals of vintage Florida art.

Proceeds from craft show to go to multiple charities
TAMPA - The Buckler's 12th annual Spring Art and Craft Show runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Florida State Fairgrounds Expo Hall, 4800 N U.S. 301. The show features items by craftspeople from across the country, including jewelry, furniture, fine art, gourmet food and home accessories.
Admission is $4; children under 12 are free. A portion of proceeds goes to Teen Challenge, Operation Blessing, Freedom Village USA and other charities. For information, call (386) 860-0092 ext. 10.
Art show plugs portraits from young artists
HISTORIC HYDE PARK - Kids ages 5 through 14 are invited to participate in the 10th annual Rembrandt in Hightops Art Show at the Old Hyde Park Art Studio, 705 W Swann Ave. Up to three works per artist may be submitted to the studio between noon and 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
All media are welcome. Three-dimensional pieces are encouraged; two-dimensional pieces must be framed and ready to hang. Entry fee is $1 per piece. Awards will be given in five age categories (5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14).
