Clearwater company featured on HGTV

By Times Staff Writer

A Clearwater company's alternative to conventional water softeners will be featured on HGTV's I Want That! at 8:30 p.m. Sunday. The show highlights innovative new home products.

The ScaleBlaster, manufactured by ClearWater Enviro Technologies, eliminates limescale, the mineral deposits that clog and corrode water pipes, water heaters, faucets, drains and shower heads and that cause soap scum and staining on bathroom fixtures, the company says.

The ScaleBlaster electronic water descaler creates an inaudible sonic impulse that changes the properties of the scale-forming calcium molecules in water so that they will not adhere to pipes and fixtures, the company says. The device consists of a control box with a microprocessor that provides a charge to a signal cable that wraps around an incoming water pipe.

The device is in commercial use by Morton Plant Mease Health Care, Largo Health Care Center, Coca-Cola, Bristol Myers-Squibb, John Deere and Weyerhaeuser, among many others.

The standard residential unit is $545. The device is available through the manufacturer: Call toll-free 1-800-756-7946. The company's Web site is www.scaleblaster.com I Want That! will also air at 12:30 a.m. Monday, 8 p.m. Wednesday, 1 a.m. Thursday and 1 p.m. May 1.
