FSU men, UM women own meet

TALLAHASSEE - State teams dominated the ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships as Florida State won the men's title by 711/2 points and Miami took the women's crown by 20.
The Seminoles (2221/2 points) pulled away from Clemson (151) thanks to a sweep of all seven running events as Walter Dix (100 and 200 meters), Tom Lancashire (800 and 1,500) and Andrew Lemoncello (5,000 and 10,000) each won twice.
Tampa Baptist graduate Garrett Johnson was second in the shot put and discus for the Seminoles. Miami was last in the 11-team field.
For the women, Miami (142 points) beat North Carolina (122) thanks to double event winners Charlette Greggs (200 and 400) and Kimberli Barrett (shot put and hammer). FSU (82) was fourth.
FLORIDA: Senior Liz Wanless (60 feet, 81/2 inches) had the best college shot put mark in the nation this season at the Spring Fling 3 meet in Clermont. Also, Gaither graduate Dara Altman had a region qualifying mark of 13-03/4.
Tennis
The third-seeded Florida women beat No. 2 Vanderbilt 4-1 in the SEC women's semifinals in Tuscaloosa, Ala. The Gators face top seed Kentucky in today's final.
The UF men also reached the SEC final by defeating host Georgia 4-3. The Gators face Tennessee for the title at 2 p.m. today.
FSU: The men's team reached the ACC final by beating North Carolina 4-3 in Cary, N.C. FSU faces Virginia at 10 a.m. today.
USF: The men lost to top seed Tulane 4-1 in the semifinals of the Conference USA tournament in Louisville, Ky. Uli Kiendl at No. 1 singles was the lone winner for the Bulls. The women also lost to the Green Wave 4-1 in Fort Worth, Texas. Neyssa Etienne won in straight sets at No. 1 for USF.
BIG EAST: Notre Dame swept the men's and women's championships at USF. The Fighting Irish men's team defeated Rutgers 4-0 and the women beat Syracuse 4-0.
Baseball
FLORIDA 5, AUBURN 4: Sophomore Matt LaPorta had four RBIs for the visiting Gators (29-10, 12-5 SEC) including a run-scoring double in the fifth that broke a tie at 4.
HOUSTON 8, USF 2: Yuri Higgins took the loss for the visiting Bulls (24-20, 10-6), who had 10 hits but committed four errors.
MIAMI 5, FLORIDA ST. 2: Paco Figueroa had three hits, including a home run, for the Hurricanes (31-9-1, 15-4-1 ACC) and three pitchers limited visiting Florida State (34-13, 9-8) to four hits.
NOVA SE 1-1, TAMPA 0-3: T.J. Alonzo and Lee Cruz hit back-to-back homers in the eighth to give the visiting Spartans (32-14, 11-7 SSC) a split.
Softball
FSU 5-4, VIRGINIA 3-0: Senior Lesley Palmer went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs for the host Seminoles (31-18, 10-6).
UF 4-12, MISSISSIPPI ST. 0-4: Stacey Stevens threw her seventh shutout of the season for the host Gators (36-12, 15-5) in the opener.
USF 5-1, HOUSTON 1-0: Carmela Liwag's three-run homer in the sixth led the visiting Bulls (35-20, 12-3) in the opener.
LYNN 9-11, TAMPA 1-3: Aimee Murch threw a no-hitter for host Lynn in the first game and Kristin Law homered in the nightcap for the Spartans.
Basketball
MISSOURI: Sophomore forward Linas Kleiza, the Tigers' leading scorer and rebounder last season, said he will enter the NBA draft. He will not hire an agent, meaning he could withdraw and return.
