Company directors, shareholders to meet

By Times Staff Writer
Published April 25, 2005

Shareholders of Tampa's three largest public companies get their annual chance this week for an up-close-and-personal look at the directors and executives in charge.

Outback Steakhouse and TECO Energy will hold meetings Wednesday morning on home turf: Outback at the A la Carte Event Pavilion and TECO at corporate headquarters at TECO Plaza.

Walter Industries directors are taking a field trip to Saddlebrook Resort in Wesley Chapel for their meeting Thursday. However, Walter shareholders aren't likely to begrudge the expense. That's because they should be the happiest in the bunch. Walter Industries' stock price has doubled in the past 12 months, thanks largely to higher oil prices that gave a boost to other energy sources, such as Walter-mined coal. TECO shareholders haven't done so badly either; the stock is up 18 percent. However, Outback's share price is down 7 percent.
