JACKSONVILLE - A 14-year-old middle school pupil died Monday after being run over by a school bus he may have been running to catch, police said.
Barry Wendall Bows was taken to Shands Jacksonville hospital, where he died. Barry attended Ribault Middle School.
Police spokesman Ken Jefferson said bus driver Gary Eugene Taber, 46, stopped to pick up children and was making a right turn when he felt a bump. Taber stopped and found that the right rear tires of the bus had run over the child. None of the 35 children on the bus were injured.
"Preliminarily, we believe the child was running late and was trying to catch the bus," Jefferson said.
Brevard teacher accused of molesting student
COCOA - A Brevard County sixth-grade teacher is accused of sexually molesting a 13-year-old student.
Daniel Cliatt, 29, of Rockledge, a teacher at Endeavor Elementary School, was arrested Saturday on 48 counts of sexual battery and 48 counts of lewd and lascivious acts on a child.
An investigation began Friday after a teacher chanced upon a sexual encounter between Cliatt and the male student, police said. The teacher "went to the principal, who contacted us," said Barbara Matthews, a spokeswoman for the Cocoa Police Department.
Cliatt told about another victim, investigators said, and they suspect there are more. They found a pornographic videotape in his classroom.
Cliatt was in jail in lieu of $250,000 bail Monday.

The African elephant died Sunday in its mother's womb, said spokeswoman Jacquee Polak.

"This is a time of profound loss for the dedicated team of people who have been working tirelessly during the two-year gestation," Beth Stevens, vice president of Disney's Animal Kingdom, said in a written statement.
