Delays, forfeits mark opening-round action

The opening day of the state tournament at Tallahassee proved to be more eventful off the court for several local participants.
Gregory LeCompte of Admiral Farragut advanced to the boys quarterfinals after Lakeland Santa Fe Catholic's Dustin Chan Pong forfeited during a rain delay. LeCompte took the first set 7-6 before the rain started. Shorecrest's duo of Brett Apter and Jonathan Bonner advanced to the doubles semifinal after their opponent forfeited.
In girls action, Shorecrest's Morgan Basil was forced to forfeit her quarterfinal singles match because of illness. Rain postponed the quarterfinal match of Admiral Farragut's Rachel Silverberg and Laura Ladd.
