Man won't face charges for 'dead or alive' shirt

LARGO - A 21-year-old St. Petersburg man will not face charges for wearing a T-shirt that appeared to call for retribution in the killing of his friend, Jarrell Walker.

A review of state statutes did not result in an applicable charge, Pinellas County Sheriff's Office spokesman Mac McMullen said Wednesday.

St. Petersburg police arrested Stanley C. Whitfield on drug charges last week after he ran a red light.

At the time he was booked, he was wearing a black T-shirt that had a picture of Walker on the front. On the back were the words "WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE," and the name of Chris Taylor, the Pinellas deputy who shot Walker during a drug raid April 12 in St. Petersburg.

The sheriff's office said Taylor shot the 19-year-old after he refused to show his hands while searching for something behind a couch.

Walker's family and others say the shooting was unjustified.

The State Attorney's Office and the Sheriff's Office are reviewing the shooting.

Whitfield must still face the drug charges on which he was arrested, which include cocaine possession and armed trafficking.
