The Arts Center's increasingly sophisticated exhibitions make it seem more and more like a hip little museum. Currently on view are two exhibitions by Cuban-American women, Maria Brito and Maria Emilia. Both deal with personal identity crises in different ways. Brito's confrontational mixed-media installations and wall sculptures, such as Harvester, shown above, contrast with Emilia's ethereal, densely worked collages and drawings. Many of the works are self-portraits, and both artists appear to have come back from the edge, bringing edgy art with them. The Arts Center is at 719 Central Ave., St. Petersburg. (727) 822-7872.
