Hot Ticket: 'On the Record' with Disney

More than 60 songs from Disney movies make up On the Record, which opens Tuesday at Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center in Tampa. Eight singer-dancers perform favorites ranging from When You Wish Upon a Star (from Pinocchio) to Ev'rybody Wants to Be a Cat (from The Aristocats) to Let's Get Together (from The Parent Trap) to a medley from Dumbo.

Director and choreographer Robert Longbottom, whose Broadway credits include Side Show and a revival of Flower Drum Song, had the task of concocting a stage show from the Disney catalog. "I spent a summer wading through stacks of DVDs and compilation albums and videos," Longbottom told the Boston Globe. "I knew we weren't looking at a book musical, so I had to think of a framework. I finally came up with the idea of a recording studio, a Disney recording studio where anything could and would happen in terms of magic and fantasy sequences."

On the Record has eight performances through May 8. $30.50-$66.50. 813 229-7827; www.tbpac.org
