Decomposing bodies found on freighter are both male

By Times Staff Writer
Published April 29, 2005

TAMPA - Two decomposing bodies found earlier this month in the cargo hold of a freighter docked at the Port of Tampa are both male, but the Hillsborough Medical Examiner's Office is awaiting fingerprint analysis for further identification.

Dr. Sam Gulino, associate medical examiner, said U.S. immigration and customs enforcement officials have the fingerprints of two men from the Dominican Republic, and they are being compared to the fingerprints of the bodies found April 11 aboard the Panamanian-flagged Ocean Belle.

The two found in the Ocean Belle might have been dead as long as two weeks. The bodies were so decomposed that medical examiners at first could not determine gender.
