Celebration of Life to honor slain woman

TAMPA PALMS - A Celebration of Life service will be held for Emily Suzanne Rykwalder at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Tampa Palms Golf & Country Club's Grand Ballroom on Tampa Palms Boulevard.

Rykwalder, 24, and her unborn child died April 4 as a result of a gunshot wound. Her husband, Charles P. Harman, 24, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder in her death.

Police say Harman, an air traffic controller at MacDill Air Force Base, shot Rykwalder during an argument in their Town 'N Country home. Rykwalder's 2-year-old son Matthew from a previous relationship is believed to have been asleep during the shooting.

Rykwalder loved music, theater, writing poetry and reading. She spent her senior year of high school in France. The Rotary Club of New Tampa sponsored the trip.

Donations can be made in Emily's memory to Character Development of Tampa Bay, 405 S Dale Mabry Highway, No. 341, Tampa, FL 33607. CDTB's mission is to empower children to recognize and strengthen their God-given virtues.

For more information contact Nancy Rykwalder at (813) 928-1911.
