Real estate broker Dee Day Cox dies at 60

NORTH REDINGTON BEACH - Dee Day Cox, a real estate broker and former mayor and commissioner, died Wednesday (April 27, 2005) at Hospice House Woodside in Pinellas Park.
She was 60. Her family declined to state the cause of death.
Appointed to one of four commission seats in 1987, Mrs. Cox was named mayor the following year, filling unexpired terms in each case. She served until 1993.
Born in Tampa, she was a fifth-generation Floridian who grew up in a Coast Guard family. She lived in the territory of Alaska and in Mobile, Ala., New Orleans and Cape May, N.J. She was a social worker briefly in New York City. She came here in 1971 to help operate the family's West Coast Realty.
She received a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of South Florida and served on the board of directors of the Florida Shore and Beach Preservation Association.
Her memberships included the Pass-a-Grille Yacht Club, Democratic Party of Pinellas County, League of Women Voters, Pinellas County Board of Realtors and Gulf Beaches Chamber of Commerce.
Survivors include her husband of 30 years, Walter Cox; a son, Darren Day, Largo; a daughter, DeAnne Day-Coats, Seminole; a brother, David Whidden Jr., Clearwater; and two grandchildren.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Lewis W. Mohn Funeral Home, 9700 Seminole Blvd.
A funeral will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at St. Anne of Grace Episcopal Church, 6660 113th St. N, with burial at Seminole Cemetery.
