CLEARWATER - It is state title or bust for Cambridge.
At least that's how the Lancers are looking at it. Cambridge (20-6), last year's state runnerup, advanced to the district title game against Keswick Christian today after a 20-0 win over Temple Heights (7-8). The game was called in the fifth inning because of the mercy rule.
The Lancers had 16 hits, including two home runs, and got four perfect innings from senior Samantha Becker (5-0). Becker, who was 4-for-4 at the plate with four runs and six RBIs, struck out 10.
"We worked on our short game," Cambridge coach Steve Gonzalez said. "That's what will win us the state championship. That's where we had some troubles last year."
Cambridge shortstop Brittany Williams finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run.
In the first semi, Keswick picked up where it left off Tuesday. The game was postponed because of rain and resumed in the third inning Thursday. Keswick (16-2) downed Tampa Baptist 11-1. Rachel Montgomery (12-1) allowed a run on three hits for the win. Nicole Gibson was 3-for-3 with two RBIs for Keswick.
