Grand Prix hopes to parlay success into sponsors

By LOUIS HAU
Published May 2, 2005

The organizers of the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg are hoping the successful staging of the race last month will pay off in heightened sponsorship interest next year.

Grand Prix vice president of operations Tim Ramsberger says his office has received inquiries from companies interested in becoming sponsors and from one-year sponsors who want to return in 2006.

Grand Prix officials haven't set a date for next year's race, but they expect to get a much earlier start on their preparations than the last time around. Andretti Green Promotions and the city of St. Petersburg didn't seal their three-year Grand Prix deal until September, and tickets didn't go on sale until Dec. 1. This time, sponsors could be announced as early as this summer, with tickets possibly going on sale in the early fall, Ramsberger says.

"We're very blessed that we had a successful event," he says. "We think we have a new hot product."
