Abuse allegations involve two former priests
Published May 3, 2005
ORLANDO - Two priests who worked in the Orlando area more than a quarter-century ago have been accused of sexually abusing children.
The Diocese of Orlando alerted parishioners of the allegations Sunday. Diocese spokeswoman Carol Brinati said the claims were made last month.
One of the priests died in 1984; the other was removed from the ministry in 1992 following other sexual abuse allegations. Both served at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Altamonte Springs in the 1960s and 1970s, though not at the same time.
The Orlando diocese last week notified the Orange-Osceola State Attorney's Office of the allegations, Brinati said.
Altamonte Springs police detectives began an investigation Monday into one of the abuse allegations, but ended it quickly after determining the alleged incident occurred in Lakeland.
