Ten Northeast High School students joined 25,000 world language students from across the country to participate in the 2005 National German Exam sponsored by the National Association of Teachers of German.

These students achieved a score above 85 percent and will receive a citation and a silver medal: Dado Kalem, 99 percent; Haris Havic, 97 percent; Alen Nuhanovic, 96 percent; Svjetlana Damjanovic, 94 percent; Vaiva Gustainyte, 92 percent; and Michael Beck, 88 percent.

The Florida Academy of Family Physicians has recognized three local fourth-graders for their efforts to help prevent young Floridians from using tobacco.

D'Mitri B. Payne II and Lindsay Melnick from Campbell Park Elementary and Austin Smith from North Shore Elementary were winners in the annual Tar Wars student poster contest.

Family physicians from Bayfront Medical Center's family practice residency staff judged the posters for creativity, imagination and artistic ability in demonstrating why young people should not smoke.
