Citrus County students won second place, third place and honorable mention in this year's 5th Congressional District Congressional Art Competition, according to a news release from U.S. Rep. Ginny Brown-Waite's office.

Second place went to Citrus High School junior Brandie Swearingen for her mixed-media work titled Motherly Love. Lecanto High School junior Corey Crasper took third place for a pencil drawing titled Instruments. Honorable mention went to Joshah Brands, a Lecanto High senior, for Rios, a combination of digital photography and manipulation. Their works were among 75 entries from students in Hernando, Citrus, Pasco and Sumter counties. The awards were presented during a reception April 29 at the Brooksville City Hall Art Gallery. Top honors went to a Hernando High School junior, Michelle Kiefer of Brooksville, for her oil painting titled Pigs.
