TAMPA - A grand jury indicted David Onstott Wednesday on charges of first-degree murder and attempted sexual battery in the death last month of 13-year-old Sarah Lunde.
Pam Bondi, spokeswoman for the Hillsborough State Attorney's Office, said prosecutors will discuss in the near future whether to seek the death penalty.
The two-count indictment charges Onstott, a 36-year-old registered sex offender who once dated Sarah's mother, with murder and attempted rape. Authorities say Onstott has confessed to choking Sarah to death and dumping her partially clad body in a pond near her home and church in rural southeastern Hillsborough County.
Sarah disappeared from her home April 10. Hundreds of volunteers joined the search. Her body was found April 16.
Onstott was originally charged with first-degree murder. The charge of attempted sexual battery is new.
