Fishing trip fatal for two of three men

By Times Staff Writer
Published May 6, 2005

Two men died and a third had to be rescued Wednesday after their boat rolled over in the Gulf of Mexico off the Dixie County coast, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

Theodore Eugene Swing, 68, of Suwanee County and James Allen Hinton, 57, of Jacksonsville died. Joseph Henry Stalvey, 70, of Suwannee County survived, according to a commission news release. Authorities say the men went fishing about 20 miles off the coast of Horseshoe Beach, then turned back when the water became rough. On their way back, their boat, a 1978 Aqua Sport, was swamped by a wave, according to the release. They managed to make a distress call before the boat rolled over.
