An aerial survey on Wednesday showed 74 manatees in area waters, according to a news release from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

There were 56 in Kings Bay, seven in the Crystal River, three in the Salt River, three in the Progress Energy discharge canal and five in the lower Homosassa River. The surveys are conducted every other week during the manatee wintering season and occasionally in the late spring and summer.
