Smoke diverts plane to TIA

By Times Staff Writer
Published May 6, 2005

TAMPA - A United Airlines flight from Miami to Denver diverted to Tampa International Airport briefly Thursday morning after the crew reported smoke in the cockpit.

Flight 151, which left Miami International Airport at 6:41 a.m. with 82 passengers and crew, landed at TIA at 8:44 a.m. and was met with fire fighting vehicles, but no fire was reported. Mechanics discovered that the source of the smoke was a small fan in the electrical system which was removed or replaced. The flight took off again for Denver 18 minutes after landing, at 9:02 a.m. There were no injuries aboard the Airbus 319.
