Jail deputy may face second charge

An internal affairs investigation began when a 25-year-old inmate complained that she was being forced to have sex with a detention deputy.

TAMPA - The detention deputy accused of having sex with a female inmate remains in jail following his recent arrest, and could face an additional count of sexual battery against the same inmate, sheriff's officials said Monday.

Craig Mandel Hall has been in the Orient Road jail - where he used to work in the booking department - since Friday, when he was charged with one count of sexual battery with slight force, a second-degree felony.

Lisa Haber, a Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman, said Hall's arrest was the result of an internal affairs investigation that began when a 25-year-old inmate complained that she was being forced to have sex with Hall.

Now the state attorney's office is reviewing additional information to determine whether to charge Hall, 36, with a second count of sexual battery against the unidentified woman, Haber said.

Hall, a detention officer for the past 10 years, is on administrative leave without pay.

Haber said Friday that there were several sexual incidents between Hall and the female inmate in December and January. The woman said the encounters were not consensual.
