Two die in Polk crash of World War II era military plane

LAKE HAMILTON - A World War II-era airplane crashed in heavy woods in eastern Polk County Monday, killing two people aboard.
Polk Sheriff Grady Judd said the bright yellow SNJ Grummond military trainer "appeared to have crashed at a very steep angle." He said the impact left a crater.
Names of the victims were being withheld until next of kin were notified.
The plane took off from the municipal airport at Kissimmee. The airport is home to a business that provides public rides on several vintage "warbirds."
Judd said thick woods made it difficult to get to the crash site.
Investigators from the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board were expected to arrive on the scene today.
