McNabb: Eagles can win without Owens
Associated Press
Published May 12, 2005
Donovan McNabb is confident Philadelphia can win the Super Bowl without Terrell Owens.
"I feel that if he plays or not, we definitely have a chance of making it to the Super Bowl and winning it," McNabb said, one day after owner Jeffery Lurie said the team won't redo Owens' contract. "That's nothing against T.O. and it's nothing against anybody else. I just feel confident in the guys that we have."
Owens skipped a mandatory minicamp last month because he wants to renegotiate the seven-year deal worth almost $49-million he signed in March 2004.
Owens' new agent, Drew Rosenhaus, declined comment Wednesday. Rosenhaus also refused to say whether Owens plans to hold out of training camp, which starts in late July.
NFLPA: Philadelphia will forfeit a portion of its offseason workout period after violating the NFL's collective bargaining agreement with the players' union. The Eagles will lose one week of their offseason program beginning Monday.
Winslow begins rehab
Cleveland tight end Kellen Winslow Jr. visited the team's headquarters to start rehab on his injured right knee less than 24 hours after his release from the hospital.
Winslow sustained unspecified injuries in a May 1 motorcycle accident. Winslow's knee will be re-examined in 7-10 days when swelling subsides.
The club said Winslow did not have any surgery during his hospital stay.
Ravens release Boulware
Baltimore released often-injured linebacker Peter Boulware to give the team salary cap relief.
The former Pro Bowl player missed the entire 2004 season with knee and toe injuries. A first-round draft pick in 1997, Boulware is a four-time Pro Bowl selection and the franchise's career leader with 67 career sacks.
Viking found with test kit
Vikings running back Onterrio Smith, who has a history of violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy, was briefly detained by Minneapolis airport police last month after they found an elaborate kit used to beat drug tests.
Police at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport questioned Smith on April 21 after a search of his bag discovered vials of white powder, according to a police report.
Smith told officers it was dried urine used in conjunction with a device called "The Original Whizzinator." In addition, he had a bottle of pills labeled "cleansing formula."
Smith told police he was taking the vials to his cousin.
Packer pleads not guilty
Green Bay running back Ahman Green pleaded not guilty to disorderly conduct after his wife called 911 because she felt threatened during an argument.
Green, who wasn't at court, sent two attorneys to enter the plea for him. Green wasn't required to appear at the proceeding. Brown County Court Commissioner Lawrence Gazeley set Green's next court date for Aug. 29, with a trial to start Aug. 31.
The Packers open their season Sept. 11.
REDSKINS: Signed linebacker Warrick Holdman. Holdman, 6-1, 235 pounds, has played in 75 games with 63 starts with Chicago and Cleveland.
COWBOYS: Signed Duke free agent receiver Reggie Love. The team plans to move the 6-4, 224-pound Love to linebacker.
PATRIOTS: Linebacker Chad Brown, a three-time Pro Bowl player, signed. Brown has 78 career sacks, the most of any active NFL linebacker.
