After introducing several scripted shows last summer, the Fox network on Friday announced a new summer lineup with only one new scripted show, returning to less expensive unscripted shows amid reruns and Friday night movies.
The lone new drama, The Inside, premieres June 8. The work of producers who delivered 24, the hourlong show is billed as a psychological thriller focused on a rookie FBI agent played by Rachel Nichols at the bureau's Los Angeles Violent Crimes Unit. The hook is that Nichols' character was once abducted and held captive.
Fox also launches unscripted cooking show Hell's Kitchen on Monday nights starting May 30. The show follows chefs trying to impress volatile English celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay.
If cooking doesn't grab viewers, maybe dancing will? So You Think You Can Dance, starting July 20, is "the ultimate search for the nation's best dancer."
The third unscripted show, The Princes of Malibu, follows "two brothers who are always on vacation" on Sundays starting July 10. It follows adult brothers living at home in a 22-acre oceanfront compound. The boys are Brandon and Brody Jenner, sons of Olympian Bruce Jenner and songwriter Linda Thompson, now married to musician David Foster.
Fox is also planning to air new episodes of the reality show Renovate My Family.
Local couple get real
More Tampa Bay area residents are slated for television appearances, thanks to reality TV.
NBC's grossout show Fear Factor is serving up a newlywed edition at 8 p.m. May 23, promoting sister-property Universal Orlando theme parks' new visitor-participation Fear Factor Live attraction.
Largo couple Stan and Caroline Gipe (he's 31, she's 26) compete on the episode for $50,000 through challenges including drinking pureed alligator eyeballs and driving a car off a flaming ramp into a lagoon.
