Power line worker in critical condition

By Times Staff Writer

LAND O'LAKES - A 30-year-old Tampa man injured Monday while working on an electric pole was in critical condition, Tampa General Hospital officials said Tuesday. Jay Jimenez was working with a Progress Energy subcontractor, C.W. Wright Construction, when the incident occurred at 5:14 p.m., according to a Pasco sheriff's report. Jimenez was putting up transformers on poles in the Laurel Ridge Drive and Cypress Creek Road area and was suspended by a bucket truck, the report said, when the foreman said he saw smoke. Another co-worker said he saw Jimenez touch a power line. Co-workers lowered Jimenez and found his hands burned. He was "spitting up," the report said. Jimenez was not wearing safety gloves, witnesses said.
