Car hits city worker, injuring his leg, head

PINELLAS PARK - City employee Al Vision was hit by a car Thursday while walking back to work from his lunch hour.

Vision, 63, was still in Bayfront Medical Center on Friday with a broken leg and a head injury, Pinellas Park spokesman Tim Caddell said. Vision is a building maintenance supervisor who has worked for the city since 1996.

Robert Mochi, 56, of 9790 66th St. N, was cited for careless driving, said police Capt. Michael Haworth.

Haworth said the accident happened about 12:22 p.m. when Vision was walking west on the sidewalk along 82nd Avenue N between 58th and 60th streets.

Mochi was driving his 2000 Toyota Echo west along 82nd at about 30 mph when he started to change his CD. The car jumped the curb and hit Vision from behind.

"The car obviously was behind him so he didn't see the vehicle coming," Haworth said.

Vision was knocked up onto the hood and his head hit the windshield, Haworth said. Mochi hit the brakes and "launched" Vision forward and into an electrical box.

Vision was taken to Bayfront by ambulance.
