Slower response shouldn't cost more

Re: Central dispatching would have saved money, May 11 column by Jeff Webb.
Something needs to be done; residents of the Spring Hill Fire Rescue District may be paying double for emergency services.
I feel that we will be paying taxes to the fire district and we will be paying Hernando County taxes to support the new emergency operations center, dispatchers, staff, etc.
If Spring Hill Fire Rescue is not going to participate in the center, where will the call go if we call 911? To the Emergency Operations Center and then to Spring Hill? That could mean important response time lost.

Thanks, but no thanks, on Patriot Act advice
Re: We need to speak out to end Patriot Act and keep liberties, May 6 guest column by attorney Pamela Mills.
I've always found it interesting that during election time my mailbox is flooded by attorneys asking me to vote for Democratic candidates. So it doesn't surprise me that this attorney is in such fear of the Patriot Act.
It has been in effect now for almost four years. Let me get out my calculator and add up the number of violations and lawsuits I've heard about since that time. What! The number "zero" keeps popping up. Surely that can't be possible due to the fact this is such a "George Orwell" type of radicalism.
Ms. Mills also recommends joining the American Civil Liberties Union, which will "protect" us. Call me wacky, but isn't it the organization that removed school prayer, banned nativity scenes at Christmas and kicked Boy Scouts out of a public park?
Thanks for the great advice, counselor, but I think I'll pass.
