TARPON SPRINGS - A 16-year-old girl was hurt Tuesday evening trying to escape from a man who attempted to abduct her in the Loch Haven neighborhood, according to police.
Around 6 p.m. near Lancer Lane and Beaver Drive, the man grabbed the arm of the girl and told her to "come here" while pulling her, police said. The girl broke away and tried to run but fell and suffered a minor injury.
She went to her mother, who called authorities.
Tarpon Springs police and the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office launched a search with dogs and helicopters but did not find the man, police said Wednesday.
Authorities described the man as a white male in his 40s, standing 6-foot-2 to 6-foot-4, with a very slim build, dark hair and pronounced overlapping front upper teeth.
He was last seen wearing dirty white cutoff jean shorts, a tan baseball cap worn backward and dirty Nike shoes. He had no shirt and has a pale complexion and a hairy chest.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Tarpon Springs police at (727) 938-2849.
