Tribute to those who have served is planned Sunday

TAMPA - Join the Veterans Council of Hillsborough County in paying tribute to the men and women who have served in the armed forces at 11 a.m. Sunday at Veterans Memorial Park and Museum, 3602 N U.S. 301.
The program will feature the MacDill Air Force Base Honor Guard, a POW/MIA tribute and an address from Col. Margaret Woodward, commander of MacDill. The event is free and open to the public.
American Diabetes Association to honor dads
WESTSHORE PALMS - The American Diabetes Association will honor four bay area community leaders and dads at the Father of the Year Awards Dinner at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Wyndham West Shore Hotel, 4860 W Kennedy Blvd.
This year's outstanding fathers are Richard Gonzmart, president of the Columbia Restaurant Group; J. Pitzer Gills III, ophthalmologist at St. Luke's Cataract and Laser Institute; Dave Ross, vice president and general manager for the Tri-P region of Bright House Networks; and Steve Morgan, vice president the Electric Company Inc.
The men were chosen for their ability to balance their professional lives while being positive role models for their families and making a difference in the community.

FAMU alumni sponsor Saturday's Seafood Fest
MACFARLANE PARK - The annual FAMU Seafood Fest will be from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at MacFarlane Park's Shelter 408, at Spruce Street and MacDill Avenue.
Sponsored by the Tampa chapter of the FAMU Alumni Association, the annual event raises scholarship money for Hillsborough County high school graduates wishing to attend FAMU.
Meet with alumni, current students, parents and friends while enjoying Cajun crabs, potatoes and fried fish.

University of Tampa dedicates residence hall
DOWNTOWN - The University of Tampa dedicated David A. Straz Jr. Hall at a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday. The eight-story residence hall, at 321 N Boulevard, opened in fall 2003 and was originally named Stadium Place.
Active in supporting higher education and the arts, Straz is chairman-elect of UT's board of trustees, chairman of the Lowry Park Zoo Foundation and commissioner of the Florida Transportation Commission. He is also on the boards of Fifth Third Bank, the Metropolitan Opera in New York and the Alliance for Responsible Cuba Policy in Washington, D.C.
Leukemia group names man and woman of year
TAMPA - The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society named Jim Morrison, executive vice president of Masonite International, and Shere Schiller, owner of Gaspar's Grotto, the 2005 Man and Woman of the Year at its gala last week at the Tampa Marriott Waterside.
Morrison and Schiller were recognized as the top fundraisers in the community. They will serve as ambassadors for the society throughout the year.
The first runnerup for Man of the Year was Roberto Arzate, beverage director at Bellarte restaurant in St. Petersburg. The first runnerup for Woman of the Year was Diane Hirsch, a fused glass artist from South Tampa.

HYDE PARK - Great Harvest Bread Co., 500 S Howard Ave., is sponsoring Bread Camp from 11 a.m. to noon Wednesdays, starting July 6 through Aug. 3. Hyde Park Montessori teacher John Hooper will lead the weekly class on the history and making of bread, nutrition and health.
