Kids triathlon set for June 26

The Inaugural "Tri If You Dare" Kids Triathlon will be hosted by the city of Seminole Recreation Division on June 26. This run/bike/pool swim triathlon event is open to kids 7 to 14. Participants will receive a finisher's medal, event T-shirt and a post race pool party. Early registration, which must be received no later than June 24, is $20. Late registration, which is accepted on June 25 only, is $25. No registrations will be taken on race day. Mandatory packet pickup for participants will be from noon to 3 p.m. June 25 at the Seminole Recreation Complex, 9100 113th St. N.
The event is limited to 150 kids. The course will be closed to traffic. For more information, call Jim Sheets, recreation director, at 391-8345.

A free Alzheimer's caregiving seminar on preparing for the hurricane season will be from 2 to 4 p.m. today at Arden Courts, 9300 157th St. N. Information will be provided by a panel of experts, including WTVT Fox 13 meteorologist Howard Shapiro, Safe Return Program specialist Henry Cancel of the Florida Gulf Coast chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, and emergency management specialist David MacNamee of the Pinellas County Emergency Management Center. The 2005 Kotchman Baseball and Softball School annual summer camp will run through July 29. Membership applications are now being accepted for the new Seminole Historical Society, which provides historical programs and services, as well as information about museum exhibits, historical sites to visit, library resources and preservation efforts. The Panama Canal Museum exhibit, "Molas! The American Influence," will continue through Thursday, June 16. Traditional molas appliqued on Cuna Indian women's blouses depict a "cosmos" of colorful birds, monkeys, flowers and mythical beings. With the opening of the Panama Canal, employees commissioned the Cuna women to create molas depicting boats passing through the canal, golf, airplanes and other designs that reflect an American theme. The Panama Canal Museum is at 7985 113th St., Suite 100. The museum is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Admission is $3 for adults, $2 for seniors and $1 for children. Kids under age 6 are admitted free. Call 394-9338.
