Third ex-water worker charged with organized fraud

TAMPA - A third former Hillsborough County Water Department employee has been arrested on charges that she and two other women stole thousands of dollars from the agency.
Like the others, Sheila A. Lane, 6026 Atticus Lane, Tampa, is charged with one count of organized fraud of between $20,000 and $50,000, a felony. She was arrested late Wednesday and released early Thursday on $7,500 bail.
Lane, Stephanie Ann Stubbs and Sherri H. Ramsey, were fired from their jobs last month for allegedly skimming a combined $52,800 from water bills residents paid in cash at a Brandon customer service center. County officials have said the women doctored deposit manifests to mask the theft.
The alleged scheme was discovered after a bank notified the county in January of a $46 discrepancy in one day's bank deposit.
