Widow gets one chec, awaits another today

PORT RICHEY - Josephine Miskowitz lives - sort of. On Thursday, more than three months after the Social Security Administration declared the 78-year-old Port Richey widow dead and cut off her benefits, the agency deposited her $992 check for March into her account. The deposit was half of what the agency promised after a Times article Tuesday chronicled Miskowitz's struggle to regain her benefits. Miskowitz said Thursday that she was told the agency can't write large checks and that the June benefits check will be deposited in her account today. "After all this, I don't believe anything they tell me," said Miskowitz, who said she's now getting calls from media outlets across the nation. "It's a happy ending if I get my check. But I told (the Social Security Administration) if I don't get my check (today) then they better turn on their TV, because I am going to be on it."
