Former teacher sentenced in child porn case

JACKSONVILLE - A former school teacher was sentenced Friday to 51/4 years in federal prison for sending child pornography over the Internet.
Officials said there was no evidence that any of the photographs were of any students taught by John E. McIntyre, 41, who pleaded guilty.
McIntyre, who taught at Tynes Elementary School in Middleburg, sent the photos to an undercover FBI agent.
He faced up to 20 years in prison, but prosecutors asked for a lesser sentence because of his cooperation. After his plea in March was approved by the court, prosecutors dropped two other charges. His prison time is to be followed by three years of supervised release.
McIntyre's brother, Walter, was arrested in 2002 and accused of possessing child pornography on his computer at a JEA power plant where he worked. He received two years' house arrest and two years' probation.
Since then, the law has changed to require a five-year minimum sentence.
