Christian academy to grow

KENNETH CITY - iDiscover Christian Academy, which opened in December, is about to get nearly one-third larger.

Opened by two longtime day care center operators at the site of the old Busy Bee Children's Center, iDiscover's expansion will include a new modular building that will be ready in July.

The expansion will add 30 more children ages 1 through 12, said co-owner Jean Cavaliere. Ten spots will be available for 1-year-olds, she said. Currently, 69 youngsters are enrolled.

The academy has 1- to 5-year-olds on campus all day. A van takes the older children to their schools from the academy in the morning, and picks them up and returns them to the academy in the afternoon.

A free breakfast, hot lunch and afternoon snacks are served through a U.S. Department of Agriculture program run by the state.

Cavaliere said she gave the academy its unusual name as a spinoff from iPOD, the musical, multitasking electronic audio device.

"I figured it was a trendy name for right now," she said.

Cavaliere and Marijana Klapuh previously operated Kid's Christian Care in Pinellas Park and Garden Crest Christian Academy in St. Petersburg.
