LARGO - Police arrested a Pinellas Park man Saturday night on a felony charge of DUI manslaughter after a fatal accident on Belcher Road near Portsmouth Road.

Witnesses said Luis A. Garcia Del Busto Jr., 27, was speeding in a 1995 silver Mercury about 6:30 p.m.

Thomas Allen Johnson Jr., 45, of Clearwater, was riding a silver Fuji bicycle across Belcher Road when the Mercury swerved and Garcia Del Busto lost control, police said. The car struck Johnson and crossed the southbound lanes, hitting a concrete pole before stopping. Johnson died at the scene.

Garcia Del Busto appeared to be under the influence, according to a police report. He acknowledged taking Nyquil, police said. Blood test results are pending.

Carnival ride supervisor accused of manslaughter

A Massachusetts grand jury has indicted a carnival ride supervisor from Citrus County on a manslaughter charge in the death of a man who was ejected from an amusement ride after a safety bar broke.

Brian R. McCullough, 39, of Hernando was charged with a single count of manslaughter, the Telegram & Gazette of Worcester reported Saturday.

The accident at a Shrewsbury church festival in September killed Andrew R. Fohlin, 38, who was tossed from the whirling Sizzler ride.

McCullough was responsible for the daily inspections of most of the carnival's rides, including the Sizzler.

The newspaper said McCullough was thought to be in Massachusetts and will be arraigned later.

ST. PETERSBURG - Police arrested a St. Petersburg man on a charge of attempted murder Saturday in the shooting of a man in the right arm and left leg.

Police said Otis Edwards Jr., 52, 430 13th Ave. S Apt. 11, shot Anthony Sharp on Friday after they got into an argument over a girl. Sharp was taken to St. Anthony's Hospital and later identified Edwards as the shooter, police said.

Edwards was also charged with possession of cocaine, after police found a pipe used to smoke crack cocaine on a coffee table. He was being held in Pinellas County Jail on Sunday.
