TAMPA - Police are searching for a 19-year-old man accused of barging into a home, demanding money at gunpoint and shooting one of the residents.

Tampa police say Juan Sebastian Rojas, of 1505 Coolwater Drive, walked up onto the porch of the victims' home on Conrad Street about 1:25 p.m. Friday and said he wanted to cash a check.

The woman who lives there, who cashes checks for people in the neighborhood through a front window, told him she didn't know him and would not cash his check, police said.

Rojas forced his way into the house through an unlocked front door and demanded money at gunpoint, police said. The victim's husband heard her scream, ran from the back of the house and struggled with Rojas, who shot the man at least once in the leg, police said.

Tampa police obtained a warrant for Rojas' arrest on charges of attempted first-degree murder and armed burglary. Rojas drives a white, four-door 2000 Mitsubishi with a Florida tag of V38-JNQ, police said. He is considered armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information can call police at 276-3567 or CrimeStoppers toll-free at (800) 873-8477.
