PINELLAS PARK - A couple who had lived together and dated for two years likely committed suicide together by overdosing on prescription drugs sometime this past weekend, police said.
Barbara D. Lam, 39, and Johnny Mathis, 49, of 3748 67th Ave. N, Apt. B, were found dead in their apartment Sunday about 6:45 p.m. They were lying in their bed, Pinellas Park police Capt. Sanfield Forseth said.
"We're waiting on the toxicology report, and that will take another 30 days, to determine cause of death," Forseth said. "There ... are no stab wounds or gunshot wounds or strangulation. Everything right now indicates drug overdose."
Lam left a note telling family members she was sorry but she loved Mathis and wanted to go with him. Mathis had heart problems and thought he was going to die, Lam's mother, Wanda Switzer, said.
