TAMPA - Tampa Bay radio host Mason Dixon, critically injured in a weekend car accident, was upgraded to fair condition Tuesday, according to a St. Joseph's Hospital spokesman.
Dixon, 55, whose real name is Jimmie Crawford, was critically injured Saturday afternoon on S Mobley Road just west of Gunn Highway when his car was hit by an SUV. The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said that Dixon's 1971 Dodge Challenger was ripped in half in the crash.
Dixon, a morning DJ and program director at WRBQ-FM 104.7, was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital where doctors removed his spleen and reinflated his left lung. He also suffered broken ribs.
The driver of the SUV, 19-year-old Nydia Davila, suffered no serious injuries. Deputies gave her a citation for careless driving.
