Fare hike approved for Tampa streetcars

TAMPA - The board that oversees Tampa's downtown streetcar system approved fare increases of as much as one-third Wednesday.

Board members of Tampa Historic Streetcar, Inc., voted unanimously for the fare hike, which begins on Oct. 2, at a meeting in Tampa City Hall.

One-way fares will increase to $2 from $1.50; discount one-way fares for senior, disabled and youth passengers to $1 from 75 cents; one-day passes to $4 from $3, and discount passes to $2 from $1.50. A special 20-ride pass for those who live along the streetcar line will increase to $20 from $15.
