SEASON TICKETS for the Art Center Theatre are now available. The 2005-06 season includes Last of the Red Hot Lovers, Sleuth, Legends!, The Miracle Worker and Love, Sex and the IRS. Season tickets are $60. The box office is in the Art League Cultural Center at County Road 486 and Annapolis Avenue, Citrus Hills. LOOK AHEAD

INDEPENDENCE DAY PICNIC: Inverness Elks Lodge 2522 will host a picnic from 3 to 5 p.m. July 3 at the lodge, 3580 E Lemon Drive, Hernando. The menu includes hamburgers and chicken for $7. Call 726-2027.

EDWARD W. PENNO VFW POST of Citrus Springs will be hosting an Independence Day ceremony and picnic on July 4. The ceremony starts at 11 a.m., and lunch will be hot roast beef sandwich plate with all the trimmings. The Country Bluegrass Band will be entertaining. CHICKEN DINNER: H.F. Nesbitt VFW Post 10087 will serve its chicken dinner from 1 to 3 p.m. July 4. Members and guests have a choice of baked or barbecued chicken with potato salad and baked beans for $6.50. Optional desserts include cake and watermelon. Entertainment will be provided. THE HOMOSASSA ELKS will kick off the Independence Day weekend with an indoor picnic at the lodge on July 2. Festivities start at 4 p.m. with a country-themed buffet. The menu will be barbecue ribs and chicken wings, fries, baked beans, cole slaw and rolls. The buffet will be open until 5:30 p.m., and the Dixie Highway Band will perform until 9:30. Tickets are $10, available at the bar for members and guests. Dress is western outfit.

DUCK RACE: Crystal River Rotary is sponsoring a Duck Race on July 4 at Hunter's Spring Park in Crystal River. This new fundraiser will be a fun event for the whole family. The club's goal is to race 1,500 plastic ducks at 3 p.m. Ducks are available for adoption at $5 each or 5 ducks for $20. Duck adoption papers are available at the following locations: Capital City Banks, Key Training Center Thrift Stores, Military Outlet, Nature Coast Bank and SunTrust Banks. THE KEY TRAINING CENTER presents "Wish for the Stars," an evening of classic Hollywood glamor featuring Betty Atchison, a Cher impersonator. Her show, "Cher Through the Decades," will be the entertainment for the 23rd annual Run for the Money dinner auction on July 15. The meal will be catered by Outback Steakhouse and will also include the Sonny and Cher impersonator dinner show as well as live and silent auctions of items with a combined value of more than $15,000. Watercolor artist Anne Weaver will complete a painting during the event. The social hour and silent auction begins at 5:30 p.m. with dinner starting at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are available at $50 per person. The event will be at the Citrus Spring Community Center. Call the Key Center Foundation at 527-8228. Proceeds are used to provide a broad scope of year-round, life-enhancing services to nearly 300 adults with mental retardation.

CURTAIN CALLS

ART CENTER THEATRE will have auditions for Neil Simon's Last of the Red Hot Lovers on July 18 and 19. This is the first show of the new season The cast calls for a male about 47 years old and three women of corresponding ages. The director, Jackie DeTorres, can be reached at 860-1976. PLAYHOUSE 19 will have auditions for the September production of Cyrano starting at 6:30 p.m. Sunday and 7:15 p.m. Monday at the theater, 865 U.S. 19 S, Crystal River. A large cast is needed for this musical comedy based on Anthony Burgess' adaptation of Cyrano de Bergerac by Edmond Rostand. The director is Jacki Hull. Actors should be prepared to sing at least 16 bars of music. An accompanist will be provided; please bring sheet music for the accompanist. A monologue is not required.

OCALA CIVIC THEATRE will hold auditions for The Mikado, the first production of its 2005-06 MainStage Season, at 6 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the theater, 4337 E Silver Springs Blvd. in the Appleton Cultural Center. Auditioners should be prepared to sing 16 bars of an up-tempo song and 16 bars of a ballad. Bring sheet music or a tape or CD. An accompanist will be provided or you can bring your own.

QUICK TRIPS

ALL FOR LAUGHS: Comedian Tony Esposito will headline at 8:30 p.m. today at Giggles comedy club at the Best Western Resort Weeki Wachee at U.S. 19 and State Road 50, Weeki Wachee. The featured performer will be Traci Kanaan. Tickets are $7. Doors open for dinner at 7:30. Call 596-2007 for information.

JAZZ ON THE GULF: The Hernando Beach Club will present a jazz concert featuring members of the Hernando Jazz Society at 6 p.m. Sunday at the club at 3145 Flamingo Blvd., Hernando Beach.
