Federal grant pays for street repaving project

EAST TAMPA - One of the largest street repaving efforts in city history is under way in East Tampa.
The $531,000 project began in May and is expected to be done by the end of this month.
It includes the resurfacing and upgrading of more than 8 miles of street bounded by 14th Avenue to the south, Avenida Republica de Cuba to the east, 25th Avenue to the north and Taliaferro Avenue to the west.
The improvements were funded by a federal Community Development Block Grant.

Young dancers sought for Macy's parade
DOWNTOWN - Camp Broadway is seeking kids ages 9 to 13 to participate in a five-day program in New York City and perform live in the 79th annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Auditions will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in the TECO Theater at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center.
Those auditioning should bring a completed application and wear dance shoes and comfortable clothes. If accepted, the program fee is $475, not including travel or housing.

McDonald's helps raise $35,922 for breast cancer
TAMPA - Ronald McDonald and executives from Caspers Co. presented officials from the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation a check for $35,922 at the McDonald's at 4443 W Kennedy Blvd.
Among those at last week's event was Fredricka Patterson, assistant manager at the Kennedy McDonald's who is winning her fight against breast cancer. Patterson has had eight chemotherapy treatments and is undergoing radiation treatment.
The donation was raised during several days in May when Tampa- and Tallahassee-area McDonald's restaurants sold pink breast cancer awareness ribbons and donated profits from the sales of apple pie.
Workshop shows how meditation helps healing

Arts Council committee looking for new members
TAMPA - The Arts Council of Hillsborough County's Artist Advisory Committee is accepting applications for new members.
The committee acts as a liaison to the Arts Council to encourage artistic participation, raise awareness of artists and their benefit to the community and facilitate the building of an artistic community.
The committee hosts town meetings, addresses specific arts and artist-related issues, and plans events.
Members of the committee meet once a month at the Arts Council's offices, Suite 105, 1000 N Ashley Drive. For information or to request an application, call 276-8250.
