Judy Wilkins at Green Key Beach.

Several years ago when our daughter, Marcia, was graduating from college, she and I planned a two-week trip to Florida from our home state of Indiana to celebrate.

As time for the trip approached, we decided to invite my mother, Marcia's grandmother.

Arriving in Florida was an experience in itself. Although Marcia and I had been here several times, my mother had always talked about seeing Florida but had never visited. She was like a child at Christmas, her face beaming at everything we saw.

One day, the three of us decided to spend some time at Clearwater Beach. It was a perfect June day and we were enjoying every moment of the sun, sand and surf when my mother suddenly sat up straighter in her beach chair.

Our eyes followed hers and we watched as a very blond, very good-looking, very well-built young man sauntered toward us in a red satin thong. He walked like he knew how good he looked.

Mother's eyes never left him as he passed in front of us, her mouth open in awe. She continued to watch as he walked away from us and until he was out of sight.

Then she sat back in her chair and sighed.

Just a few years later, Mom and Dad moved to Florida permanently.

Judy Wilkins lives in Port Richey.
