Passing grade in math gets Gator recruit eligible
By ANTONYA ENGLISH
Published June 26, 2005
Florida football recruit Reggie Nelson has completed the necessary academic requirements and will be eligible to play in the fall.
Nelson received a passing score for a math class required to complete his Associate of Arts degree at Coffeyville (Kan.) Community College. SEC rules required he earn at least a C in the class to be eligible.
Nelson (6 feet 2, 195 pounds) signed with the Gators two years ago but failed to qualify academically. At Coffeyville, he was an All-American last season then re-signed with Florida in February. The math class was his final hurdle.
Because he redshirted his first season at Coffeyville, Nelson has three seasons of eligibility remaining at Florida. He is expected to compete for a starting job at safety or cornerback.
