Cavaliers pick Ferry as GM in time for draft

CLEVELAND - Danny Ferry has left the front office of the NBA champion Spurs to become general manager of the Cavaliers, the Associated Press reported Sunday night.
Ferry played 10 seasons with Cleveland. His hiring is expected to be announced today - one day before the NBA draft.
The Cavaliers don't have a selection but have reportedly discussed trading forward Jiri Welsch for a second-round pick. That deal could be easier to make now that the Cavs have found a replacement for Jim Paxson, who was fired the day after the season ended.
Ferry spent the past two years as San Antonio's director of basketball operations under GM R.C. Buford. The 38-year-old Ferry played in a club record 723 games for the Cavaliers from 1990-2000.
Ferry is following in the footsteps of his father, Bob, who played 10 seasons in the NBA and was general manager of the Washington Bullets from 1973-90.
WNBA
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. - The Detroit Shock hit rock bottom.
The team wasn't there long.
The Shock fell behind by 25 points in the first 13 minutes before putting together the biggest rally in WNBA history to beat the Los Angeles Sparks 79-73.
"When we were down 25, I told them this was the lowest point in franchise history," Shock coach Bill Laimbeer said. "We finally had to take a stand, and we did."
Deanna Nolan had 22 points and Cheryl Ford added 15 points and 15 rebounds as the Shock broke its league record, set June 9, 2004, when Detroit came back from 23 down to win at Indiana.
MINNESOTA 73, SEATTLE 70: Katie Smith scored 22, including 15 of her team's last 20 points, to lead the Lynx to their fourth straight home victory.
SACRAMENTO 62, WASHINGTON: 57: DeMya Walker scored a season-high 24 to help the visiting Monarchs snap the Mystics' three-game winning streak. Walker shot 11-for-13 and had seven rebounds.
