TARPON SPRINGS - The Florida Skin Divers Association 2005 Southern Open State Championship concluded Sunday with divers competing in spearfishing and photography.
Tampa's John Hermes won the spearfishing state title with 146.8 points. Dean Phillips of Hudson tied Hermes in points but lost to him because of a lower average (1.446).
Other state champions include:
Lisa Tatro, Oldsmar - photography, digital class (108 points).
Sandy Curran, Clearwater - women's spearfishing (144.4 points).
GR Tarr, St. Petersburg - freedive spearfishing (119.6 points).
Ron Wagner, Hernando Beach - open photo (100 points).
David Shelton, New Port Richey - fixed photo (87.5 points).
Dylan Cave, New Port Richey - youth division, photo (51 points).
Jack Vasilaros, Clearwater - youth division, spearfishing (45.5 points).
Jason Delacruz, St. Petersburg - grouper (42.2 pounds).
Armando Suarez, Lutz - hogfish (15.2 pounds).
Gerry Rice, St. Petersburg - snapper (9.9 pounds), amberjack (42.2 pounds).
Paul Renner, St. Petersburg - triggerfish (7.3 pounds).
