Redington Beach offers games, cookout, bonfire

REDINGTON BEACH - A townwide Family Fun Fest will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday, with a bonfire beginning at 8:30 p.m.
Activities are free to residents and guests and include games beginning at 4 p.m., a cookout from 5 to 7, a raffle and a musical jam. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Rain date is Sunday. For more information, call Antonio at 320-8103 or Zoe at 397-4842.
Belleair Beach
The North Beaches Branch YMCA will offer Kiddie Sports, a summer experience for children 3 and 4, at the Belleair Beach City Hall park Mondays through July 11, and from July 18 to Aug. 8.
The cost is $20 for each child for the four-week course, which will include group games and an introduction to a variety of sports. Emphasis will be placed on noncompetitive learning and skill development. To register, call the YMCA at 595-5610.
Belleair Beach needs a new city logo and is turning to the public for help. A contest is open to anyone interested in submitting a design. The city will award the winning entry $500.
The contest begins Friday and ends July 31 at 11:59 p.m. Contestants must be 18 or older. Elected officials or employees of the city and their immediate family members are not eligible to enter.

Gulfport
The Recreation Center summer camp runs through July 29. It's available for children who have completed kindergarten through age 14.

Indian Rocks Beach
Six-week sessions of youth swimming instruction, offered by the North Beaches Branch YMCA, are being held at the Holiday Inn Harbourside, Indian Rocks Beach. Children are divided according to age group and ability.
New this summer are classes in snorkeling for children ages 6 to 12. A noncompetitive Swim Club for the same age group meets weekly through October. To register, call the YMCA at The Beach Art Center's Creative Arts Camp will continue until July 15. The program for children ages 7-12 will be conducted in one-week segments. A child may be enrolled for as little as one week or as many as six.
Young artists will dabble in drawing, painting, sculpture, charcoal, 3-D art, papier-mache and other creative projects designed to teach the basics of fine art and have lots of summer fun. Cassandra Gordon-Harris, the Pinellas Arts Council artist-in-residence at Sexton Elementary School, is the instructor. The fee is $80 per week and a $10 materials fee. Snacks are provided.
Adult art classes and studios for oil painting, independent studies, clay, watercolor, and Sumi-ie/Suiboku are also offered through July. The classes are $60 for members and $75 for nonmembers each four weeks. For registration and more information, call 596-4331.
The YMCA is offering a Summer Arts Program for people 55 and older. Classes will meet from 10 a.m. to noon Thursdays and Fridays at the Beach Art Center, 1515 Bay Palm Blvd. Sessions will be held this Thursday and Friday and July 7-29.
Students will learn art fundamentals such as color mixing, composition and design on Thursdays and visit art museums or art centers Fridays to study the works of others. Paint, art supplies and transportation are provided. Cost is $50 a session. For more information, call the YMCA at 595-5610.
St. Pete Beach
The city's annual fireworks in celebration of Independence Day will be held about 8:30 p.m. Monday at Lido Condos, 4450 Gulf Blvd. For more information, call 363-9207.
Sand Key
The Pinellas County Parks and Recreation Department will host a free Sea Turtle Interpretive Program from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. Fridays - July 8, Aug. 12 and 26 - at Sand Key Park, 1060 Gulf Blvd.
Participants will learn about sea turtles and their nesting habits. The classes will include a guided beach hike, what to do when a turtle nest is discovered and why lights on the beach may be hazardous to baby sea turtles. Participants will see bird nesting areas and sea turtle nests. Questions will be answered. For more information, call 464-3347.
South Pasadena
The Fountains at Boca Ciega Bay will offer a 55 Alive Driving Class from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 2 and 9 in the Key West dining room. Cost is $10 for two classes.

The Fountains is at 1255 Pasadena Ave. S. Valet parking is available, or park in a visitor spot and enter at the main entrance.
Treasure Island
The Treasure Island Open Air Market has been canceled for the rest of the summer. The market will reopen in September. For more information, call Steve or Pat at 345-9084.
More than 1,300 shells will rocket skyward at Treasure Island's annual Fourth of July fireworks display on the beach. As usual, Bell's Firework Display Co. of Tampa will provide the show. Nearly 600 rockets will light up the beach skies in the grand finale.
Topics at tonight's Treasure Island Voters Watch meeting include beach and bay access, use of residential land for commercial purposes, noise, traffic signals, beach patrols, code enforcement, the city budget and bridge construction.
The group meets at 6 p.m. on the last Wednesday of each month for a social hour and dinner, with the official meeting beginning at 7 p.m. at the Golden Phoenix Restaurant, 112 107th Ave. Meetings are open to the public, with a social hour beginning about 6 p.m. There is no charge for the meeting, but normal restaurant charges will apply for those attending the social hour or having dinner.
Anyone with an interest in Treasure Island may attend. Membership is encouraged but not required. The annual membership fee is $10.
