'Red, White and Blues' to ring in the Fourth

SEMINOLE - The second annual Red, White and Blues at Seminole City Park, 7464 Ridge Road, will be held Saturday from 3 to 9 p.m. The event, sponsored by the city Recreation Division, will include live blues bands, including the Patty Sanphy Group (3 to 4:30 p.m.), Damon Fowler Group (5:15 to 6:45 p.m.), and the Tommy McCoy Band (7:30 to 9 p.m.).
Kids' arts and crafts activities will be provided by Michael's of Largo Mall. The event will also include children's bounce houses, clowns, face painting, a Stars and Stripes Car Show, flag raising ceremony, and a fish fry by the Seminole High School baseball team.
The Independence Day celebration is free and open to the public. The fish fry and car show will be a fundraiser for the Seminole High Warhawks baseball team. For more information, call Steve Malla, recreation program coordinator, at 391-8345.
The Seminole Community Library, 9200 113th St. N, has a full roster of events and activities planned for children, teens and adults in July.
Teen programs include:
--Summer Reading Program: Through July 15. Just choose books you like to read and fill out a short form available in the TEEN ZONE. Anyone who enters is eligible to win prizes.
--Teen Thursdays: (Prior registration required).
--July 7 - Film: Pirates of the Caribbean. Free popcorn and soda.
--July 14 - Scrapbooking: Bring in all your scattered photos and learn how to organize and make them a treasure.
Adult programs include:
--AARP Safe Driving - Saturdays, July 2 and 9, 9 a.m.

--Read Around Florida - Mondays at 11 a.m. Learn about Florida in the fun-filled hour of stories, games, skits and a puppet show.

--July 6 Reptile Discovery Program - A fascinating and educational show: Meet an iguana, a crocodile and a 16-foot albino rock python.
--July 13 RassMaTazz - Juggling, magic and ventriloquism with Lowell Tauszik.
--July 20 Karate Demonstration - Marc Graden and a group of his students demonstrate fitness, discipline and self defense abilities.
Special, limited-space programs that require registration include:
--Reading is Fun Friday - (Entering grades 1-3) Fridays through July 22, 11 a.m. An hour of enjoyable reading and related activities.
--Page Turners - (Entering grades 1-2 with an adult) Tuesdays, 7 p.m., through July 19. Listen to a story, share favorite books by doing a short book talk and finish with a craft.
--Mother-Daughter Summer Book Club - (For girls entering grades 3-5 and their mothers). Wednesdays at 7 p.m., through July 20.
--Parent-Son Summer Book Club - (For boys entering grades 3-5 with a parent). Tuesdays, 7 p.m, through July 19.

Signups have begun for the 2005 season of the Seminole Junior Warhawks basketball league. The league is open to boys and girls ages 5-16, and teams are divided into five age divisions. The 10-game season begins on Aug. 20.
Signups will continue each Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. through July 9 at the Southwest Recreation Center on Vonn Road in Largo. The league draws about 250 players primarily from the Seminole and Largo areas. For more information, call Ken Fullerton at 319-9292 or 596-0675.
The 2005 Kotchman Baseball and Softball School annual summer camp will run through Friday, July 29. The camp sessions are held from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Seminole Little League, 90th Avenue N and 125th Street. After care and transportation services will be available.
